Workshop on market design applied to power systems on January 17-18 with Francisco Muñoz (Universidad Adolfo Ibañez, Chile)

Invited by Prof. Alexandre Street, Muñoz will present a tutorial on market design with focus on the electric power industry. The event will be held as part of the course on Electric Power Economics, taught by Prof. Street at the Postgraduate Program in Electrical Engineering of PUC-Rio.

The tutorial, entitled “An Introduction to Market Design and Equilibrium Modeling in Electricity Markets”, will be presented on January 17-18, from 2 PM to 5 PM, at Padre José de Anchieta Auditorium (Edifício Cardeal Leme, ground floor).

Its goal is to provide some of the basic concepts to answer market-design questions with an application in the electric power industry. The topics to be covered are all subtopics that are likely covered in depth in advanced microeconomics, decision analysis, and mathematical programming courses. The idea is to expose attendees to a broad range of tools, even if it means not being able to go into much detail in any of them.

The tutorial, which will be presented in English, is open to the outside community. Interested parties who were not regularly enrolled in Economia da Energia (ELE 2551) in 2018-2 must send an e-mail to alslopes@ele.puc-rio.br under the subject “participação no workshop design de mercados” declaring interest. It is worth mentioning that your participation is subject to the room capacity.
